At SK9A our goal is simple, we want you to enjoy your dog and expand their and in turn your life! If your dog is experiencing human or dog reactivity, our goal is for you and your dog to eventually be able to attend our group classes or pack walks!
When it comes to behaviour modification, we really have to look at each and every dog as an individual. This is why we start all behaviour cases, with an consultation assessment. This helps us identify any behaviour problems, gather past and present history of the dog and put together a plan.
At Sussex k9 Academy, we specialise in transforming problem behaviours.
we can help you with, dog to dog reactivity, dog to human reactivity, Separation anxiety, resource guarding, predation and compulsive behaviours.
When it comes to behaviour modification, there really isn’t a magic wand to wave to fix problems, some problems can be reduced through management straight away, but it is usually a long road to deal with more complex behaviour problems.
As a dog owner you need to be aware of this, your making the first step in the right direction, nothing worth while is ever easy.
But at Sussex k9 Academy, we try our hardest to make it as simple and stress free as possible.
As a rule of thumb, the quicker you seek help, the faster the recovery and behaviour modification process.
Also remember your dog breed, if you own a border collie and they keep stalking everything, we can help but genetically there are certain aspects that certain breeds have been bred for over decades of years!
We can help you fulfil these breed requirements but certain aspect of training can be, and should be, a strong aspect of the dogs life.
We start with a meeting with you and your dog. We run through history and current behaviours to help identify the best possible route to move forward with your dogs behaviour plan.
Before meeting, You will be sent some history gathering questions to answer and send back. We run through some management ideas to prevent behaviours being rehearsed and some exercises to get you and your dog on the right path.
We hold our behaviour assessments at our training area (The Doghouse) or we can come to you as a home visit.
A home visit can work better for some severe behaviour cases in terms of putting in management to prevent rehearsal.
