“You didn’t get a dog to spend your life avoiding other dogs.”

Reactivity Training in Sussex : Reactivity Boot Camp

STOP AVOIDING DOGS. START ENJOYING YOUR WALKS.

THE REACTIVITY BOOTCAMP.

A week long intensive boot camp for owners who are sick of crossing roads, hiding behind cars and planning every walk around other dogs, and where they might be.

We’ll help you take your dog from reactive and difficult to manage, to calmly getting out and about around others dogs in real world environments.

1 Week. Maximum of four Boot campers. You train with your dog, every step of the way.

BOOK MY BOOT CAMP PLACE

You scan the road before leaving the house. You cross over when another dog appears. You avoid parks, busy paths and normal walking times. A simple walk feels more like a tactical operation, and just one surprise dog, can ruin everything.

Maybe your dog barks, lunges, pulls or loses their head the second they spot another dog. Maybe they are desperate to reach the other dog. Maybe they are frightened and trying to make it go away. Either way, you are left gripping the lead, apologising to strangers and wondering whether walks will ever feel normal again.

You may have tried scattering treats, distracting them, demanding a heel or asking for a sit while another dog passes. It might work when the other dog is half a field away. But in the real world, when it actually matters, everything falls apart.

You do not need another trick for managing the next reaction. You need a clear system that teaches your dog how to behave around other dogs.

FROM REACTIVE AND RESTRICTED TO CALM AND CAPABLE.

The aim of this Boot camp is simple: To get you and your dog out into the real world around other dogs.

That means helping you move away from a life ruled by avoidance and towards one which you can:

- Walk without constantly scanning for trouble.

- Pass other dogs with far more calm and control.

- Visit real places instead of sticking to empty routes.

- Understand what your dog needs in difficult moments.

- Give your dog more freedom without micromanaging every move.

- Trust your own handling instead of panicking when another dog appears.

This is not about creating a robot, that waits for instructions every three seconds. It is about helping your dog understand the boundaries, make better choices and learn that another dog appearing does not need to be a full blown event.

IM READY TO CHANGE THIS

WHY MORE OBEDIENCE IS NOT ALWAYS THE ANSWER.

A reactive dog can know how to sit. They can know how to lie down. They can even walk beautifully when nothing difficult is happening.

Then another dog appears and all of it disappears.

That is because reactivity is not simply a lack of obedience. Your dog may be frustrated and desperate to get closer; or fearful and determined to create distance. Focusing only on commands can leave you trying to control every second without teaching your dog what to do when they have room to think for themselves.

At Sussex Canine Academy, We work on a clear two way communication. Your dog learns both, what they can do and what they cannot do. We then give them opportunities to make the right decision without being endlessly prompted, bribed or micro managed.

The result is not a dog that behaves only while staring at food or waiting for the next instruction. The goal is a dog that can notice another dog, understand the boundary and choose a better response.

THIS BOOT CAMP IS FOR YOU IF…

- Your dog barks, lunges, pulls, growls or fixates when they see another dog.

- Your dog is frustrated because they desperately want to reach other dogs.

- Your dog is fearful and reacts to make the other dogs move away.

- You avoid particular routes, places or times of day.

- You feel embarrassed, anxious or physically overwhelmed on walks.

- You are exhausted from constantly distracting and managing your dog.

- You have already tried training that did not hold up in the real world.

- You are ready to attend the Boot Camp and put the work in with you dog.

WHY AN INTENSIVE WEEK BOOT CAMP?

Weekly training can be useful, but it often leaves too much room for old habits to return. You train for an hour and then spend the next six days trying to manage the same reactions on your own.

This Boot Camp works differently, Every session builds directly on the one before it. The lessons stay fresh, Your handling improves quickly and your dog gets repeated opportunities to practise better choices.

We begin with clear foundations. We then add controlled challenges, move into the real world environments and keep progressing until you can use the training where you actually need it.

No month long gaps. No starting again every week. No sterile training hall pretending the outside world does not exist.

*Our Boot Camps are held at different times and days varying throughout the week. This can includes weekday evenings and weekend days etc. For the most up to date Boot Camp spaces and dates, Please get in touch.

YOU TRAIN YOUR DOG, WE TEACH YOU HOW.

This is not a board and train service. You will attend and work with your dog throughout the programme.

This matters because the person holding the lead after the Boot Camp is YOU.

You will learn how to read your dog, communicate early, handle difficult moments and reinforce the decisions you want. Your dog will learn that the same rules apply with you, Not just your trainer.

By the end of the week, both ends of the lead should have changed. Your dog should be making better choices, and you should have the confidence and skill to guide them.

A STRAIGHT ANSWER ABOUT TRAINING TOO.

Sussex Canine Academy uses a modern, balanced approach. That means selecting tools and techniques according to the dog, the behaviour and the outcome, not according to online trends.

During the Boot Camp, We will explain what we are using, why we are using it and how to use it fairly. You can use our tools throughout the week at no extra charge. If you want your own equipment afterwards, discounted options are available.

You will not be pressured into using something you are uncomfortable with. We only ask that you arrive with a open mind, watch the process and make an informed decision based on what you learn.

WHAT SK9A CLIENTS SAY.

VICKY WITH HARRY.

Thank you so much! I’m genuinely blown away not just by the results we achieved but by the amazing community you’ve built and your personal teaching style. I was properly nervous on Monday coming into the unknown and worried it might be an unpleasant experience, where I was uncomfortable with the methods, but I feel very lucky to have found someone who is so knowledgable and who’s ethos aligns so well with what I want for my dogs and delivers the training so calmly and compassionately.

Ive done a lot of dog training with a lot of different people over 20+ years of dog ownership and you’ve got created something generally unique and impactful.

I also have to commend you for offering it at such exceptional value, making it accessible, compared to some of your peers who are gate keeping similar programs behind extortionate paywalls.

Im so looking forward to getting more involved in the community going forward. Thank you.

CANDICE WITH JOJO.

We‘ve just completed our first training boot camp with Sussex K9 Academy…and, wow!

What a difference just a week has made. Camerons balanced approach is spot on. He took the time to closely observe and understand each dog and handler in our small group and coached us through theory, understanding, tools and practise.

We were then introduced to the wider community of dogs and handlers who have all gone through a similar journey. It’s already made the world of difference to us. We’re grateful for the experience and feel part of a lovely new community. A big thank you from the three of us!

VICTOR WITH KEIRA.

Can’t praise Cameron enough! Calm, friendly and encouraging. Very good at bringing up yours and your dog’s confidence, all positive!

Amazing changes in our little Keira, from freezing or running away from other dogs to pack walks with confidence within one week!

Great community of fellow dog walkers!

NATALIE WITH ZARA AND RAYA.

Thank you to everyone who we met at last weeks boot camp, you all made it less daunting and good fun.

It’s only been day 2 going solo and we can’t believe the difference in the girls, never in a million years did we think we’d be walking around a busy Brighton sea front and enjoying it! Thank you!

CERI WITH RALPH.

Cameron just wanted to say thank you so much for this week and from James as well, We are so grateful for your help and guidance with Ralph, thank you.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.

Please reach us at Info@sussexk9academy.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The core focus of the boot camps is reactivity towards other dogs. If your dogs reactivity falls under a slightly different umbrella, Feel free to get in touch and we can assist you.

During the week, Once the boot campers have their foundational skills, we head off site and invite past boot campers and the SK9A community to help, We go into real world locations with different dogs which we can use to set up scenarios without your dog just habituating to the same dogs, this includes dogs we invite but also getting our dogs around the general public.

A lot of past clients and boot campers have tried several different trainers before attending. We will help you and continue to do so even after the boot camp has finished. Once your a part of the SK9A community, your in!

It give too much time between sessions for everything to fall apart or the wrong behaviours to be accidentally reinforced. Weekly or fortnightly sessions, in my opinion, the slowest ways to see results, if any. I would argue it works for the trainer, but not for the dog or their owner.

No, you are at the boot camp also, this is as much about you and your handler skills.

Get in touch! We know a lot of people work, that why our boot camps are flexible, some boot camp dates work as weekday evenings and during the day at weekends to solve this issue.

We have a maximum of four boot campers but during the week you and your dog will be meeting lots of other dogs as they join us to help out.

Just let us know before hand.

Yes. You will need to arrive at different locations with your dog during the boot camp, this can be a few during the day, but in close proximity.

We run through tools, fair use and their uses, I will alway recommend best for the dog in front of me. But i will never force you to use a tool if  uncertain. All we ask is you turn up with an open mind. Tools we use range from flat collar, slip lead, slip collar, prong collar and Ecollar.

After the boot camp, you become part of the SK9A community. This means you will be able to book onto future neutrality classes, and pack walks. You will also have the opportunity to help out with upcoming boot camps to help new people and continue to proof your dog, for FREE.

Drop us a email. Info@sussexk9academy.co.uk

YOUR DOG DOES NOT NEED ANOTHER YEAR OF AVOIDANCE.

Another month of empty routes will not teach your dog how to cope around dogs. Another bag of treats will not solve the problem if you are still managing every second, and waiting for them to grow out of it, usually gives the behaviour more time to concrete.

Give us a week. Turn up, Do the work and learn how to guide your dog properly.

We will replace panic with a plan, constant management with clear communication, and restricted walks with the confidence to get back into the real world.
